Product Description

Details

Binchotan charcoal is historically regarded as the highest quality activated charcoal for purifying water and absorbing toxins. The Kishu Binchotan Charcoal is activated by being burnt at extremely high temperatures (2,300 F) and then rapidly cooled.  This process of activation is called "Nerashi", which carbonizes the structure of the wood, leaving countless microscopic cavities that easily trap unwanted toxins, water-borne chemicals and chlorine.

Kishu Binchotan Charcoal is made from highest quality Japanese Holm Oak, a tree native to Wakayama, Japan.  It is burnt in a small workshop by skilled artisans. Binchotan Charcoal has an alkaline effect and due to its porous nature, it naturally softens and improves the taste and quality of tap water.

Each bag includes an assortment of charcoal pieces of various sizes – approximately 2 pieces of charcoal

Before first time use:

Rinse the charcoal under running water and gently brush to remove any excess ash.  Next, bring a pot of water to a boil and insert charcoal.  Allow to boil for 10 minutes.  The charcoal is now ready for use.

To purify water:

Gently place cleaned charcoal in a glass pitcher or similar.  Fill the pitcher with tap water and let it sit for several hours, possibly overnight.  The natural circulation of the water through the charcoal will remove chemicals and odours, leaving tasty and clean water.  The water will now be ready for drinking or cooking.  Continue to top up the water as it runs out.

To maintain the charcoal:

Approximately every two weeks, or as the charcoal loses its effectiveness, boil the charcoal in tap water for 10 minutes to refresh.  Depending on the frequency of your use and quality of tap water, you may not need to refresh the charcoal as often.  The charcoal can be used for multiple times until worn out.  It can then be added to your garden to help aerate the soil, increasing microbial activity and creating healthy natural soil for your plants.

The charcoal can be re-used multiple times until worn out.

Other uses for Binchotan Charcoal:

For Healthier Living:

Place charcoal near appliances such as televisions, microwaves, computers and mobile phones which emit certain amounts of electromagnetic energy. The charcoal can block harmful electromagnetic waves with its unique electrical conductivity.

In your garden:

Recycle old, used charcoal. Broken pieces of Binchotan can be mixed or applied over regular soil. The infinite number of tiny holes in Binchotan creates great air and water passages in soil. This helps to increase microbe activity and creates ideal soil for healthy plants.

Around your home:

Place Binchotan inside your refrigerator to work as a deodorizer, and eliminate those unwanted smells. Try Binchotan in your closet or in your shoe box. It also protects from dampness and molds. The cavities inside Binchotan absorbs bacteria which causes unpleasant smells and unnecessary moisture.
